Labor Day - Holy Crap, Summer IS Over Afterall

leaves-1

Happy Labor Day everyone. I’m up in Door County. Not to worry, I have Big Fred, Chief of Security guarding my home along with my three attack cats*. The homestead is being watched; all gates secure.

So I’m free to roam. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve had any sort of longer vacation. I’ve taken nothing quite a few extended weekends and I've nickle and dime’d many of my vacation days. This is an extended week. And I love it. I’d be heading home right now and it feel so good to stay up here. All the tourists have abandoned ship, the kids are in school, and Peanut, myself and the locals are able to breathe easy.

We’ve been quite busy at work all year. Time to play hard.

No matter how hard I try to convince Mother Nature, Fall is here with an abrupt termination of another season. I have to come to grips with it. A few days back I had the AC unit on in our home, comfortably erasing the heat. I was not prepared for the precipitated end to summer.

I make this same mistake every year. In our suitcases are shorts, shorts and more shorts. Of which, Oliver's worn 2 at least, I’ve worn none. I have no socks, no warm shoes, no slippers. Luckily, we are not in the boonies (oh yes we are) for I have found a pair of sheep skin UGG knockoffs for $20 and an ultra-flippin’ cool pair of shoes that I absolutely do not need. They are so super cool that I am going to show you a zillion pix:

And they don't really keep me warm, but they keep me happy! :)

I'll try to check in later this week. We are having a blast. We absolutely love it up here. It's a simpler life, quite colorful, quite adventurous too as we march through tracts of wooden grounds and limestone terrains.

*NOTE: I'm not kidding! Zoe has a police record!
